Volunteer with the smithsonian’s national museum of african american history and culture! 
 
The Smithsonian is in search of friendly, energetic, and bright individuals to serve as volunteers at the new National Museum of African American History and Culture to open in the fall of 2016.

  WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Outgoing and welcoming individuals, 18 years or older who will assist visitors in engaging with the museum’s content in a meaningful way. National Museum of African American History and Culture volunteers should possess the following qualities:
·         Enthusiasm for working with the museum’s diverse audiences
·         Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
·         Comfort and confidence speaking to small and large groups
·         Ability to work with a team enthusiastically, dependably and flexibly
·         Ability to solve problems or recognize when to contact a staff person
Volunteers must commit to the full training schedule to last approximately 7 months, plus one year of service once the museum officially opens to the public.
 
When the museum opens in 2016, weekday volunteers must commit to one four hour shift each week. Weekend volunteers must commit to two four hour shifts each month. Continued volunteer service is subject to yearly performance reviews.
 WHAT ARE THE TRAINING DETAILS?
The training program will equip Volunteers with the knowledge, skills, and ability to provide optimal service to visitors. The program will consist of online units and in-person learning sessions. The completion of all training components are required prior to being officially placed at the museum.  
 
Training will begin in March 2016 and end in September 2016 or when NMAAHC opens.
